This wonderful drawing now hangs opposite our bed and I have more occasion to stare at it. It is unfortunately unsigned. I say unfortunately not because of any value, but it would be so nice to know who it is by. "School of" Edward Poynter or possibly Frank Miles, was the nearest the Sotheby's expert got to it. I have just been looking at Frank Miles and it doesn't look like him to me, but what do I know. Poynter is nearer but his subjects seem to be classical (like Alma-Tadema) and he always seemed to sign his drawings.
I purchased it in a junk shop in Peckham in the late seventies, the seller believed it to be a print (I didn't argue !) and charged me a pound for it. "A pound very well spent" said the expert. Sure was. Reflection of camera under mouth please ignore.
