Just as we went from Victorian to Edwardian, now we enter a new 'age'. I'm not quite sure I was quite prepared for this. I was (only just!) born in the reign of George VI, and a month later he was dead. That was as we know, seventy years ago. It's a long time and there is an unsettling quality of the very very familiar being disrupted by abrupt change. The 'nation's' collective grief doesn't extend to me in the strict sense, but I am rattled nevertheless.
This marvellous Queen hangs in our hall and was made by my late friend Max Evans whilst we were at Portsmouth. It predated punk and the Pistols by a couple of years.
