The Paddock – a large field purchased in 1913 by a partnership of local developers (The Paddock Syndicate) led by J H Every (of Phoenix Ironworks) who had already (1905) purchased over 25 acres, forming part of the paddock, from John Parsons of Lewes, timber and slate merchant.Their ambition was to continue the residential development which had already happened in nearby streets such as Leicester Road and Bradford Road (From Lewes Conservation Area Appraisal Document ©Lewes District Council)
