The 'mother town' of the six towns that form Stoke-on-Trent is in a sorry state. Like the centre of Hanley, there are hardly any functioning shops or public buildings. So much has been left to rot. It is such a sad reminder of the state of this country, where civic pride is non-existent and retail parks have killed the town centres.
